Wpt Prime at Gold Coast Kicks Off Thursday
The World Poker Tour is coming back to Australia. WPT Prime is returning to the Gold Coast in Australia later this week. The series proved wildly successful in 2022 and is returning for an encore performance. The 15-event series will kick off on Thursday, February 23rd and continue until March 6th.
WPT Prime Returning to Gold Coast in Australia
The World Poker Tour is returning to The Gold Coast this week. Starting on Thursday, the WPT Prime will return with a 15-event schedule. It kicks off with a $1,000 Opening Event. The event will have two flights, and play will continue until February 26th. Last year’s opening event saw 399 players turn out, with Dan Smiljanic coming out as the eventual winner.
The schedule has 15 events spread out over nearly two weeks. Events will be a mix of poker games like NL Hold’em, PL Omaha, and High Roller events. Some of the premier events on the schedule are the $5k High Roller on Feb 27th, a $3k PLO High Roller on March 2nd, and the $10k Super High Roller on March 5th.
The $2,000 Main Event will kick off on March 2nd and feature three starting flights. The ultimate winner of the event will earn a package to the 2023 WPT World Championship in Las Vegas. Last year’s Main Event drew 896 players, with Yan Lei coming out on top.
Sixth Time WPT Has Visited Australia
This year’s WPT Prime is the sixth time the World Poker Tour has visited Australia. The first time the series came to Australia was in 2019 and 2021 with WPT Deepstacks. In 2022, the WPT ran a Deepstacks event along with a WPT Prime event and the inaugural WPT Australia.
The series will run both standard buy-in tournaments and a series of satellites for most events. Satellite tournaments are smaller buy-in tournaments that award seats in a larger tournament. Satellites are a great way to win a seat into a tournament and reduce the impact on your bankroll. You can use the extra money to compete in other poker events or play casino games like pokies.
