Wpt And Partypoker Announce Summer Online Poker Series
Normally, the months of May, June, and July are filled with live poker tournaments, many of them in the United States and offering gold bracelets. This year is going to be very, very different.
Covid-19 has created a new landscape for so many people in so many industries. For poker pros all the way through to casual poker players, they, too, are finding a new scene. Just this month, the World Series of Poker announced its foray into the online poker space for the 2020 WSOP on Natural8 and GGPoker.
The World Poker Tour has also made its way online through its partnership with PartyPoker. And the duo has something special planned for July and August.
First WPT World Online Championships
Australians might want to find the nearest country from which to access PartyPoker (hello, New Zealand!), as the next few months will provide online poker opportunities to win World Poker Tour titles like never before.
The WPT World Online Championships are set for July 17 to September 8. The entire series will guarantee $100 million in prize pools.
The online poker series will offer 12 primary WPT-branded events, many of which will have varying buy-in levels. Five of those tournaments will award WPT Champion status and entries into the next WPT Tournament of Champions.
Events with Mini and Micro buy-ins will not offer official WPT trophies but chances to get in on serious guarantees and prestigious titles. And this range of buy-ins from $33 to $102K gives more players a chance to participate.
WPT CEO Adam Pliska noted, “The WPT World Online Championships brings together the World Poker Tour and PartyPoker once more for what will be the largest series in both of our histories. … Five WPT Champions crowned in a single series is a first for the WPT in 18 seasons, and we look forward to welcoming them all into the WPT Champions Club.”
PartyPoker Managing Director Tom Waters also commented, “I’m delighted that we have been able to partner with WPT to revive the WPT World Championships and bring the series online for the first time. We want to give the festival more of a live event feel, so the tournaments will be structured as such, including single reentry for all NLHE events, freezeouts, limited late registration, and limited Day 1s. Due to popular demand, players will be able to see each other’s real names at the tables.”
