Canberra Casino Gets Population Details
Reports coming out of the Canberra Casino claim that Canberra Casino’s owners have requested population details for every town within three hours’ drive from the resort. This is despite labelling its major expansion as aimed for the international high rollers.
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) apparently provided these statistics in 2014. The numbers that were provided to the casino owners include small towns like Harden, the countryside that has just 3669 people and Boorowa with a little over 2478 inhabitants. It looks like the Canberra Casino aims to open its doors to all the population in the state and they are leaving no stone unturned.
The population register was given to the casino’s representatives through the request at the Freedom of Information Office. It is believed that an email from the Freedom of Information Office had the subject; “As discussed, for discussion around population centres that potentially use Canberra as a destination for various products/services/events etc.”
The ACT government works hand in hand with Canberra Casino
Sources close to the casino say Aquis Entertainment concluded its purchase of the casino in December 2014, the same month it acquired the population register from the government. Also, it is believed that the Tony Fung, the head of the casino, has been in liaison with the ACT since 2013 regarding the population register.
The Canberra Casino has been on a roll to expand its reach in the town and it seems like the government is willing to assist in any possible way. This is after the government recently agreed to give the new casino close to 200 poker machines. Previously, the local clubs were the only venues allotted poker machine licenses in the region, which resulted in a fight with the clubs.
Clubs ACT head Gwyn Rees said the casino’s request for population counts backed the clubs’ belief that the redevelopment was predicated on the local market. He said the revenue of the casino will see the residents of the ACT profit most and not the purported international visitors. Keep visiting Casino Aus for more land-based and online casino news.
