The company still upholds exclusive rights to casino betting in New South Wales until 2019. Packer’s plan was selected over Echo’s own development proposal. However, this would have been in exchange for tax benefits from the government.
Echo chairman John O’Neill said in a statement, “We are disappointed that the New South Wales government does not share our vision.”
He continued to say that the company will be working on other initiatives to grow and also further mature their Star property.
