New Quickspin Online Slot: Artemis Vs Medusa
This week, Quickspin released its latest online slot game for Australian players and others around the world. Artemis vs Medusa is the classic story of good versus evil but with a Greek Goddess taking on a variety of monsters. And the graphics create a game unlike the standard online casino fare.
Artistry of Artemis
To make a new online slot game stand out from the rest, the graphics must be outstanding. Quickspin is known for its artists, such as Senior 2D Artist Andrea Femerstrand. She worked on the Artemis vs Medusa project to make it a very unique one.
Her job as a 2D Artist is to work on the static images, ones that don’t move. She worked with the Lead Artist on this game, mainly on the “medium symbols and graphics for the free spins.”
Femerstrand noted, “The special thing about our game is that during the free spins, there is a battle between Artemis (the Goddess of Hunting) and a bunch of Greek monsters. … The whole project has been a lot of fun, especially to brainstorm on how we can show everything that happens during free spins.”
This will make more sense later after explanations of the features, but suffice it to say that Femerstrand enjoyed the project, especially illustrating the monsters. “I have really made the muscles tense, painted a lot of details in order for them to stick out.”
A Game of Good vs Evil
The primary background on which the grid plays is a foggy but bright one, with two warriors sculpted in stone on either side of that grid. The music is somewhat ominous, indicating a battle ahead.
Artemis is the hero, a character exuding the glow of youth. The Greek monsters, on the other hand, are not the finest looking creatures. One resembles a bull, another a hawk-like creature. But the number one enemy is Medusa, obviously. The mythical character with snakes for hair could, according to lore, turn a person to stone with a quick look.
Producer Travis Grabau indicated several goals with the game. One was to use the vertical space available in portrait mode to create a battlefield setting. And Artemis was the choice for the main character because “we also thought that it would be fun to have both the protagonist and antagonist be portrayed with a strong female character.”
This new Quickspin game is set up with a 5-reel and 4-row grid, a high-volatility game with a 96.17% RTP (return-to-player).
Artemis vs Medusa Payouts
There are 1,024 paylines in this latest Quickspin offering. And the maximum win is 5,288x the bet.
Speaking of the bets, the minimum bet is $0.20 per spin, and the max bet is $100 per spin.
As for the payouts, there are bounties on each of the four enemies. If any one of them lands on the fifth reel as a Monster Bounty Coin (at the minimum bet, for this example), it automatically triggers a bounty payment of:
- Medusa = $3.00
- Minotaur (resembling a bull, orange background) = $1.60
- Griffon (resembling a hawk, blue background) = $0.80
- Harpy (resembling a human/bird mix, green background = $0.40
As for the symbols appearing on paylines, again using the $0.20 bet as an example, the payouts for each symbol will be as follows for five on a payline:
- Artemis = $5.00
- Medusa = $3.00
- Minotaur = $1.00
- Griffon = $0.80
- Harpy = $0.50
- Orange, yellow, purple and green diamonds = $0.40 each
- Light and dark blue diamonds = $0.20 each
Features in Artemis vs Medusa
As mentioned, the Monster Bounty Coin is one feature that can appear in the base game, it shows in the lower right corner of any square on the reels. The Artemis Golden Frame must appear on that last reel to pay the bounties.
The Wild in this game is the golden antler symbol, and it may substitute for any symbol except the Scatter.
That Scatter is a bow-and-arrow symbol that may appear only on the second, third, or fourth reels. Three of them trigger the Unlimited Battle Free Spins bonus round. Unlike other games that set a certain number of free spins, Artemis vs Medusa presents a game that lasts until the player (as Artemis) resolves the battle.
The Unlimited Battle Free Spins round takes players into the sky with a new grid and a battleground in the sky. The meter above the grid updates with each monster symbol accumulated on the grid. When Artemis lands on the reels, it gives the character ammunition to strike a monster with the arrows. Artemis does this on her own, and the player receives bonuses for every monster killed.
If there are more than 15 monsters on the meter, Artemis must retreat, which ends the bonus round.
It is a very unique bonus round, one that is independent of player skill but varies in outcome each time.
